Here are the basic rules of Photoshop Tennis, or PST for short.

Photoshop Tennis
  • Games are between two players using Photoshop (or any graphics program deemed useful, for a free alternative, you can download Gimp.  Photoshop elements can be used and would set you back $60).
  • One person posts the first image and then both players take turns returning back and forth.
  • Games go for a set number rounds of back and fourth.  Normally it's 5 rounds with each player producing 5 desktops.
  • Each new imagine must incorporate some feature of the previous image, be that taking something directly from the image by editing it, or taking some idea from it and expanding it.  Remember, good returns are clearly drawn from the previous image.
  • All images are of some desktop size, be that 1024x768, 1600x1200, 1440x900, etc.
  • All images posted should be no wider than 600 px with a link to the larger desktop image.
  • All images should be a flattened .jpg image.
  • These games can go on for a long time and I have seen them go years between returns before.  If for whatever reason you cannot return for an extended period of time, it is courteous to tell the other player.
There are also variations on the theme of PST.

The Pounce Game

The Pounce Game differs from a normal PST game in that one person starts the game and then anyone can play at any time.  Pounce Games also have a set theme to them, for example under water or urban decay.

Apophysis Tennis

Apophysis Tennis differs in that Photoshop is not the main tool, but instead the flame fractal program Apophysis is used (download free here).  Also, instead of incorporating some feature like in normal PST games, some variations used must be replicated.  While posting a new return, the player should post which variations were used in the creation of that image.

---

And with that, I hope to see more people setting up their own games and creating masterpieces on the SoV Forums :)

Oh, and I probably forgot some guidelines, but these should work.

JPEG is a lossy compression algorithm  <_<. Can't I just post a .png? It's on my own upload bandwidth anyways.
